A Sweet Connection

A Sweet Connection

Hershey, Cuba.

Yep, there is a beautiful town in Pennsylvania named after Mr. Milton Hershey, but that‘s not the only one. This April, 15 people are taking a private 10-day tour which includes Hershey, Cuba (also known as Camilo Cienfuegos).

Here’s a little about Mr. Hershey’s impact on Cuba:

🍫 Sweet Business Strategy:

Milton Hershey, in 1916, acquired Cuban land for steady sugar supply. European sugar disruption from war made Cuba a sugar hotspot.

🚂 Cuban Railways and Holdings:

An electric railroad linked Havana and Matanzas for sugar transport. Cuban holdings encompassed 60,000 acres, 5 sugar mills, and more.

🏡 Generosity Knows No Bounds:

Central Hershey, akin to Pennsylvania, emerged in 1918. Mr. Hershey built homes, free schools, and founded an orphan school.Mr. Hershey’s Legacy

🎖️ Honored in Cuba:

Mr. Hershey's approach differed from foreign businessmen's exploitation. The Cuban government honored him with awards, including the Grand Cross.

🔁 Legacy and Transition:

Cuban holdings were sold in 1946 to the Cuban Atlantic Sugar Company. Central Hershey was renamed Camilo Cienfuegos in 1959, honoring a Cuban revolutionary.

The town of Hershey, Cuba is now a small quiet place, the sugar mill closed decades ago. You can sign up to join us on an exclusive tour of Cuba that includes visiting Hershey, Cuba. Our April 2024 tour is full, but contact us now to get on the waitlist or join a future tour.
